1971 Porsche 914 1.7 liter. This car was originally purchased in Germany and brought to the states by the original owner. This is a true Euro 914 and as such has the factory rear fog light which is very rare. Maintenance records back to original purchase and dealer work in Germany.
This 914 has 79K original miles and is in VERY good original, unrestored condition. The paint is mostly original (Tangerine) but has been touched up in spots before my ownership. The interior is in very good condition with original seats with no rips/tears and the dash is perfect with no cracks. The door panel material is a little loose, which is common on pre-'72 cars but can be made perfect with a little re-glueing. The center console storage tray was removed and a custom 6" subwoofer was put in its place. I have the original tray and no modifications were made to the car to accomodate the subwoofer, so it can be put back to original very easily if you desire. The head unit is a Blaupunkt CD and the kick panel speakers have been upgraded as well but are in stock enclosures. The carpets are original and are in good condition. It also includes the original passenger foot rest (dog bone) in perfect condition.
The rockers/jack posts are in perfect rust free condition, as is the original battery tray. Both were treated with POR-15 by the previous owner. The POR-15 was not top coated with Tangerine, so it shows black where applied. The battery is an Optima and is sitting on top of an acid absorbtion mat just to be safe. It has nice factory chrome bumpers and the rear bumper is the rare early version with the straight lines around the license plate area. The factory jack and tool kit are still in place as well.
The engine is stock, including the original injection system and runs very well. It has stainless steel heat exchangers and aftermarket muffler. Tranny is original tailshifter and shifts well (for a tail shifter!)
Suspension has been upgraded to original 914-6 front end with factory sway bar and the rear hubs have been drilled for 5 lug and new 914-6 rear rotors were installed. The rear hubs were the early style with bosses for both 4 and 5 lugs, so they are the proper hubs for re-drilling to 5 lug. The wheels are original 15 X 6 fuchs and are in original unrestored condition.
This is a rare true Euro 914 in very good original condition and is ready to drive anywhere. It is not perfect due to it's originality and would need a new paint job to be show quality. It is a very good unrestored driver that is very solid and runs well.
The bad........One of the hoses for the heater blower had cracked and a temporary fix (PVC coupler) was applied, this should be repaired properly with a new hose to be correct.
It has several little imperfections (parking lot dings and such), door panel material is in good shape but is loose and could use re-gluing in places.
Paint is tired and could use a re-spray.......looks great from 10' away but get up close and it shows it's age and originality.
I hate to part with this unique and really clean 914, but I'm trying to buy my first home and unfortunately, that needs to take priority right now. So if you want a really nice, clean driver 914 with a unique history.........this could be your car.
