Vehicle Description 1977 Ford Thunderbird The Ultimate in Luxury This is an original owner 1977 Thunderbird 72,900 miles. I bought this car at auction and assume it was an estate sale, but have no way of knowing. The reserve on this car is well below NADA value or any other reliable source such as CPI Black Book and Old Cars Price Guide. NADA shows this car as being valued at: Low Retail = $2,970 Average Retail = $6,450 High Retail = $9,900 This T-Bird appears to be all original including all glass and sheet metal. All lights, gauges, switches, radio work fine. The car runs fine, has a brand new battery and four brand new tires. The car was recently repainted in it’s original Polar White and looks very good just in time for Spring and Summer Cruises. The all-new 1977 body-style Thunderbird was a contemporary luxury car with a shorter 114-in. wheelbase, 10 inches shorter than it’s predecessor. It tipped the scales at 3,907 lbs. compared to 4,808 lbs. for the 1976 model. Height, width, and front and rear treads did not change drastically with it retaining it’s six-passenger accommodations as before. This year saw all new sheet metal and sharp re-styling, less standard equipment than earlier T-Birds offered, lighter weight, smaller engine, and a whole package that was more modern-looking and fuel efficient. A chrome wrap-over roof molding, and small opera windows with beveled-glass, decorated the "B" pillars. These pillars separated the front door windows from large coach windows at the far rear end of the "greenhouse." Distinctive T-Bird features included concealed headlights (hidden behind large flip-up doors), and functional front fender louvers. The chrome-plated cross-hatch grille had a bright surround molding. Its styling was patterned after the previous design theme, but the new grille had horizontal bars that were a more dominant part of the design. The grille's lower edge was designed to swing rearward under impact, to avoid damage from slow-speed collisions. The parking and signal light lenses were again notched into the front fender tips. At the rear of the car were tall, full-width taillights (right one is cracked, but can replaced easily), and a sculptured deck lid. A Thunderbird nameplate dressed up the deck section that extended down between the taillights. A smaller engine was installed in T-Birds this year with this one having the 302-cid (5.0-liter) V-8 and a Dura-Spark ignition system. To improve handling, the 1977 Thunderbird has higher-rate springs, a larger front stabilizer bar, and a standard rear stabilizer bar. Standard goodies included Select Shift Cruise-O-Matic drive, power steering, power front disc and rear drum brakes, moldings on the wrap-over roof, rocker panel moldings, and moldings on the wheel openings, body belt and rear edge of the hood. This Thunder Bird interior features the optional split-bench seat or bucket seats bench seats with Wilshire cloth and vinyl upholstery. It has the new five-pod instrument cluster with European-type graphics. Instruments include an 85-mph speedometer, a trip odometer, an amp light, a fuel gauge, a temperature gauge, an oil pressure light and a clock. Warning lights are provided for directional signal and high-beam indicators, and to indicate when the hand-brake is on or the door is ajar, the seat belts are in use and the rear defogger is being used. The interior includes an electric clock and an AM/FM radio, an automatic-temperature air conditioning system, fold-down center arm rests, a reclining passenger seat, a visor vanity mirror, and color-keyed seat belts and front and rear vinyl roofs. "New Ford Thunderbird: The Best in 15 Years," announced the cover of the April 1977 issue of Road Test magazine. The article inside the publication hit the nail on the head when it explained that Ford had made the right decision by taking the T-Bird "off the hill of the custom built homes" and rolling it down the road "where it can punch it out with all the Monte Carlos, Grand Prixs, Cordoba’s, and Cougars.' 1977 Thunderbird Two-Door Hardtop Specifications Wheelbase 114.0 in.
