Its mid-engine aluminum chassis, active double-wishbone suspension (also constructed of aluminum) and wide track design imbue the car with otherworldly handling qualities. Body roll is essentially nonexistent with the active suspension placed in "Sport" mode, and its ability to track over bumps without upsetting the chassis is spot-on thanks to electronic dampers that take a mere 0.04 second to react. When not in "Sport" mode the 360 Spider softens a bit, improving its ride while allowing for greater body roll. This 2002 Ferrari 360 Spider reaches 60 mph in about 4.5 seconds and tops out over 180mph thanks to Ferraris 400hp 3.6 liter V-8! The electro hydraulically shifted F1 transmission has been refined by Ferrari over the past few years and provides quicker (150-millisecond), smoother shifts comparable to the Indy one-seaters. HRE style three-piece wheels hold 19-inch tires, and cross-drilled disc brakes are installed. Rear roll bars contain a mesh screen to prevent wind buffeting when the Spider's top is down. Ferrari says that despite a higher coefficient of drag due to the open body style, the 360 Spider performs exactly like the coupe. Its automatic top folds flush beneath its rear cover. The reinforced windshield surround can take the full weight of the car in the event of a rollover incident.
