This is the one you've been waiting for: the 1972 2002tii Inka, in all its fuel-injected, look-at-me splendor. This model, in this color, was chosen by BMW to promote its new 1-series as embodying the very best of BMW's enthusiast heritage. This car is the soul of BMW. If you're at all interested in 2002s, there is the tii Inka (with round tail lights of course) and then there is everything else. Don't cheat yourself.
And this one flies. It handles 80 mph no problem, and in fact loves to rev high. I've used it as a daily driver for two years, and it has not seen the shop for a single second. It corners and scoots as if it were new. The road communication is superb. Occasionally, it can be hard to find first gear (about once every few weeks), but it sorts itself out after a few shifts. It's easily the most enjoyable car I've owned, and the car I had before this was a WRX.
As for the body and the interior, the pictures speak for themselves. The only flaws are: the usual cracks in the dash; clock doesn't work; odometer doesn't work. I'm not sure how many miles are actually on the car -- I've only put down a mileage number because Ebay requires you to do that. But on the whole, the car is a peach. There is literally not a week that goes by where I don't get stopped by a total stranger asking if it is for sale. I've always shook my head and said no, but now the upcoming property tax season has forced my hand. I also just recently renewed the registration, so no fees are due until July 2009.
Maybe you'll find a better one somewhere else, but you could spend years looking. It's a dependable daily commuter, in exceptional cosmetic shape, and undoubtedly the coolest BMW ever made. Make it yours.
